Weight loss tips for Christmas

Well, it’s official :) 3 more weeks ’till Christmas! It’s a magical time, this Holiday, the Christmas tree, Santa’s presents… and all the Christmas food!

Honestly, I can’t remember ever spending a Christmas without tons of food. I know the winter holidays should be about the children and bringing them joy, but when have you ever spent a Christmas without way too many meal courses? Everyone cooks like crazy, because everyone visits everyone and what better way to socialize than over a home cooked meal?

Well, for me personally, this will be the second year I plan on staying away from all the temptation. Ok, maybe not all of it, I’m not a robot, but it’s really not worth it, not even if you’re skinny by nature! But for anyone who is or used to struggle with weigh loss, Christmas is the definition of temptation!

Holiday weight gain? No thanks!

Here are a few tips ‘n tricks I plan on putting into practice. Some of them I found online, some of them I thought about myself. Here goes: (feel free to add yours too, of course :) )

Continue to eat just as usual

I don’t see why on Christmas we must, all of a sudden, forget common sense and start eating like we haven’t eaten in weeks! Seriously, I know when I’m full and I know when to stop. So.. I’ll just stop when I feel like it and no grandma is gonna make me feel guilty about it 😀

Also, if eating veggies and lean meat is your usual eating style, why spoil everything you worked for by eating all the foods that got you fat in the first place? (yes, I said fat, I used to be fat, it’s the truth!).

So, if during your visits to the people you love you see healthy food on the table, go for it! Avoid the mayonnaise, stuffed eggs or anything that you think is bad for your weight loss.

Ok, maybe have a piece of cake

Well, all of the above still applies, but it would be inhumane to just not eat anything that winks at you! What I like to do is have a little taste of some of my favorite “temptations”, like pie or, the very famous in my family, veggie salads containing mayonnaise.

However, the key words here are A LITTLE TASTE. They’re gonna be at the dinner table staring at me, and it’s Christmas! But there’s a difference between having a thin slice of the cake your mom baked or going for seconds! Weight loss is hard. Maintaining your weight is hard. So, make sure you don’t make a mockery out of yourself and everything you worked for!

Keep moving, even if you’re not going to the gym

I assume the gym will be closed on Christmas. I am also assuming I won’t have the willpower to do my exercise routine at home, right during the Holidays. However, there is a way to keep the body moving and still burn some calories, even during Christmas.

1. Walking – walk as much as you can! Take your lover and go for a walk after your meal, walk to and from the parties you go to, park your car 3 blocks away and walk that distance. Let’s face it, it’s the healthy thing to do!

2. Dancing – is there dancing at the parties you’ll attend? Will it be dancing at New Year’s? Well, then dance! What better way to burn lots of calories than dancing and having fun?

Well, these are the 3 very important things I will definitely keep in mind this month.
Christmas is great! It’s actually my favorite holiday of the entire year, but I’m not gonna lose my head and make the same mistakes that made me had to go through an entire weight loss process in the first place.

What are your weight loss tips for the Holidays? How are you gonna stay fit this Christmas?
